Come Follow Me: Week of Feb. 11 - 17

Happy Valentine's Week!

I have thrown in a few Valentine-y activities, but not too many. You won't get sick of hearts!

For a printable version of this week's lesson ideas, you can find the file HERE

And as a reminder:
These are my ideas for activities for the week. They are MY vision of what I would like MY son to learn this week. This may not be what works at your house! I am trying to create a TJED inspired, Love of Learning environment in my home, so I use lots of different types of teaching and activities. Most of what I do only lasts around 10-15 minutes per activity. And I hardly ever get to everything on the chart. But I am prepared, and I have found that that preparation makes all the difference. (For an overview of my thoughts and intentions for the creation of these plans, I encourage you to read this post.)

I must be born again to enter the kingdom of God.

Scramble the words in John 3:3 and have children put them in order. How is being baptized and confirmed like being born again?
Heavenly Father shows His love for me through Jesus Christ.

This lesson has lots of ideas to teach about the Sacrament and how it helps us remember Christ and the love he showed for us. The Sacrament Helps Me Think About Jesus.
Is God a spirit?

Have children take turns looking at each other. Have them name a part of the body they see, such as arms, legs, eyes, etc. Explain that Heavenly Father has those body parts too. Explain that we know what Heavenly Father looks like because some prophets have seen Him and have written about them in the scriptures.
Christ offers me His living water.

 Object Lesson:

Christ Can Change Me

Talk about some of the miracles that Christ performed and how Christ can change you too! Make some slime with the recipe below. The colored glue will represent you and wht water mixture will represent Christ. Pour the water mixture into the colored glue and watch it change. Talk about how this is similar to how Christ can change our hearts.

Recipe:
  1. In a metal or glass bowl, add some coloring to 1/2 cup of Elmer's glue. Mix. Label the bowl: You & Me
  2. In another small bowl, mix 1 cup warm water with 1 tsp. Borax until dissolved. Label the bowl: Jesus, Living Water
  3. Slowly add the "living water" one tablespoon at a time into the glue mixture. Takes about 3 tablespoons. Stir with fingers. Pull out the slime!
